Insect Pests:
- Nematodes: Ditylenchus dipsaci, Pratylenchus penetrans, Meloidogyne
- Thrips
- Leafminer
- Bulb Mites: Rhizoglyphus spp. Tyrophagus spp.
- Onion maggot: Delia antiqua
Diseases:
- Basal Rot Fusarium culmorum: yellowing and dieback of leaves, white fungus at bulb base
- White Rot Sclerotium cepivorum: identical to basal, but plant death is quicker
- Downy Mildew Peronospora destructor: Whitish, furry growth on leaves and yellow tinge
- Botrytis Rot Botrytis porri: watery stems and fuzzy grey fungus
Harvest:
- Harvest when 40-60% leaves have yellowed, around mid-July
- Use a pitchfork
- Undercut bulb
Post-Harvest:
- Trim leaves and roots, rinse or rub dirt off
- Store in cardboard boxes or burlap bags 32-35 F at 65-75% RH
- Seed garlic should be stored at 50 F at 65-70% RH
- Keep separate from other crops, smell will transfer
